New Oculus Quest Hand Tracking 2.0 and Upgrades

Oculus quest gets a new hand tracking 2.0 update, wireless airlink aka VR Air Bridge is real and Meta might be interested in a quest cloud gaming feature in the future.

A new version of hand tracking has hit the quest. You’ll need to be on update 39 to experience the upgrades which include improvements for tracking overall of course, the ability for recognizing overlapping hands and best of all clapping is now available in this black magic of an update. I can’t wait to high five myself in cubism…

Speaking of cubism and games that track your fingies, hand physics lab, air guitar sim unplugged and liteboxer are already implementing the new upgrades. You will notice the improvement in moving and rotating objects in cubism and hand physics lab especially. The days of losing our virtual hands may be nigh

I have already talked about the D link wireless airlink solution dubbed VR Air Bridge which now seems to be all but confirmed by meta. A user manual from DLink has surfaced along with some actual product shots from twitter user reggy o4.

I originally imagined plugging the device into a usb port and just letting it chill but the newly revealed extension cable with a vertical stand makes more sense as line of sight is important for overall performance and connection to the questset. Set up looks simple, apparently just two steps of downloading the drivers from the oculus setup web page and then plugging the device into a usb 3 port. Press F for those who only have usb 2.0. I’m so sorry.

Lastly again its Bradly. In another firmware code investigation it was found that back in quest version 24 from 2020 there were lines of code referring to something called avalanche cloud gaming. So its possible oculus was testing this feature internally, but obviously since we are 15 iterations later at version 39 this more than likely isn’t a priority for now for Meta. But hey what if this is part of the reason why zuck bought 16,000 GPU’s from nvidia for that metaverse super computer! Or probably just to upload his consciousness to be preserved for all time.

Would you pay for cloud gaming from meta on the quest? Lets talk in the comments and I’ll catch you in the quickie.
