Senior Director of Display Systems Research at Meta's Reality Labs Dr. Doug Lanman recently shared an updated VR headset concept that his team are able to actually build right now that can pass the visual turing test.

This is the kiwi elite style comfort head strap for the quest 3 and from the top spoiler alert this is a great quest 3 headstrap to help make your quest 3 more comfortable, and less fatiguing. Right now it is on sale for $30 on amazon, which is pretty hard to beat considering the official elite headstrap is $70 I’m sorry but that is just ridiculous .

Inside the box you’ll find the durable and flexible head strap along with the thick foam padding that hugs your skull and the top of your head like a loving crablet from boneworks. Seriously though That padding is a massive upgrade over the official meta elite strap which feels more like a styrofoam cup on the back of your head. Just like the quest 2 version you first snap the upgraded padding onto the back of the strap making sure you line up the right and left sides and push in until you hear the click. Next up take the facial cover off your quest and run the strap through the little slit in the top middle of your headset. This took some effort but I found shifting side to side and pushing forward finally got the strap over the hump if you will…From here you can snap the now assembled headstrap on to the corresponding sides on your quest 3 and now your quest will feel like a dream on your head, due to the padding but also how the weight is more evenly distributed over your skull rather than all on the front of your face with included meta cloth strap. All I can say is, this is absolutely worth the upgrade over the stock cloth strap. The comfort strap for the quest 2 was and is still my daily driver and KIWI has great customer support and in my experience with them has always produced quality products. Yes Kiwi did send me this heads trap as review unit but they have no control over what I say. Now of course I haven’t tried every random head strap from amazon for the quest 3 so I can’t say this one is the absolute best and that would be subjective due to how all skulls are not built the same but this one in my time with it is a great upgrade for quest 3 as well as the quest 2 version. In the latest meta quest update you find some new features and options like new home environments, the public test channel is coming to quest 3 quest 2, and new quest pro performance upgrades!

To get recorded videos from your Quest 3 to your computer lets start with those on PC. all you have to do is take the usb c white cable that came with your quest for charging and plug it into your computer, put your headset on and then and connect the other end of the usb c cable to your headset. Inside your headset you should see this little dialogue box come up asking to allow the connected device to access the files on the headset. If it goes away just unplug and replug your headset and it will come up again. With your touch controller click on that box to allow the connection. Now on your PC you can go to file explorer then find Quest 3 on the left slide click it then internal shared storage then the oculus folder, videoshot, and there you will find all your recorded video capture and you can place them onto your desktop.

For mac its a little more tricky of course so first go to sidequestvr.com then click get sidequest up top. Scroll down to the advanced installer this is key make sure to choose advance then click your version and install. Open the .dmg then drag the sidequest icon over to the applications folder and then you can double click the icon to open up sidequest. From here you can then plug in the included usb c cable to your mac put your headset on and then connect the other end of the usb c cable to your headset. You should see this dialogue box come up asking to allow the connected device to access the files on the headset. Like the PC version If it goes away just unplug and replug your headset and it will come up again. With your touch controller click on that box to allow the connection. Now back onto your mac inside the sidquest app you’ll see the red dot in the top left turn to green and now you are connected. From here click the folder icon to open up the quest 3’s directory then choose the oculus folder, then videoshot, and there you will find all your recorded video captures and you can drag and drop them onto your desktop. Make sure to let the transfer finish before disconnecting.
