Meta Quest 3 Preview
Industrial Designer Marcus Kane working with SadlyIts Bradley has produced new renders for what the Meta Quest 3 more than likely will look like. Their render for the quest pro was very close to the final product so there is definitely some merrit to these photos.
Of course you’ll notice the three slotted cameras on the front of the hmd which on the left and right are projected to house one black and white tracking camera and one rgb camera for improved handtracking and of course color pass through while the middle camera will be a depth sensor for spatial tracking. So like with the quest pro mixed reality seems to be a fairly key feature for the quest 3. Personally I wish Meta would focus more on expanding the VR experience but hey I don’t have the billions like zuck.
Looking at the side of the headset you will notice the projected pancake lenses (like those used in the pro) have made the front casing much slimmer and presumably lighter.
Underneath we see the volume rocker and contact points for a charging dock and on the other side what should be a scroll wheel for IPD adjustment. As well as 2 more tracking cameras on either side.
Working our way up the left side of the headset we see the power button and usb c port which now looks to be part of the headstrap hinge for charging or connecting to your pc. The port design might be a sad but nice homage to the oculus logo, but it could also just be a nice little troll from the creators of these renders. Then we see our familiar speaker grills and on the opposite side there is a headphone jack. (Got this wrong in the video my bad!)
And then of course there’s the classic fabric headstrap probably to save cost in production and if there are functional peices in the hinge our current 3rd party head straps won’t really work.
This 3D render from Alvin Suen does have a white version of the pro controllers but with what zuckerberg has said in the past about the quest 3 price point being under $500 I doubt they will be included in a standard release since the pro controllers alone are $300 but maybe there will be a deluxe version that adds them in.
The quest 3 is rumored to get a new version of the snapdragon XR2 chip basically the XR3 which will bring a GPU performance increase over 2.5x that of the quest 2.
Are you hyped for the quest 3? Do you like these projected aesthetics? Sound off in the comments, I know personally I’m ready for an upgrade that I can actually afford and is worth it but I’ll wait with cautious optimism. Thanks again for watching and I’ll catch you in the next quickie.
